Building Bright Futures
The George S. Mickelson Middle School was constructed in 1998 and serves approximately 700 children in grades 6, 7, and 8. Additionally, Brookings High School has recently undergone a major remodeling and expansion project offering more classroom and practice facilities for athletics.
Area school districts in smaller towns also boast excellent academics as is evidenced by South Dakota’s high national ranking in college preparatory tests. South Dakota students averaged 589 on both Verbal and Math SAT scores, earning the state a solid ranking of 6th in the nation.
Throughout the area, students achieve academically and emotionally while balancing their school work and the myriad of extracurricular activities offered at the area high schools. Area residents take great pride in their local sports teams and help to provide an exciting and energetic atmosphere at contests.
